Our client is a technology focused federal government agency based in Sydney.
The Technology Research Lead is a newly created role created to to support the provision of internal technology advisory services.
This role will be responsible for engaging broadly internally and externally, undertaking independent, innovative research and experimenting hands on with technology, using your knowledge and expertise to provide tangible and actionable advice in the form of briefings, presentations and papers.
This role will input into the development of horizon scanning, tech trends and regulatory work including legislative reviews to attest to the technical feasibility and considerations related to an array of mattes relating to security and safety.
This will be an initial 6 months contract to start as soon as possible. You will be required to be an Australian Citizen with existing Baseline Clearance or the ability to obtain baseline clearance.
Reporting to the Technology Office you will be liaising with higher education sector, think tanks , industry and analysts to understand the latest trends .
You will work with the internal regulatory and policy functions to help shape outcomes and decisions, focusing on Trust and Safety capabilities .
As a Technology Evangelist you will provide a technical perspective and will act as a Trusted Advisor to the organisation.
Your responsibilities will include the following:
- Manage and support projects to explore in detail aspects of the systems, platforms and standards
- Liaise with the higher education sector, think-tanks, industry, and independent analysts to inform horizon scanning, to understand the latest trends, and to use this knowledge to advise operations.
- Act as technology evangelist, provide a technical perspective and technology focused considerations in meetings and forums and inputting into whole-of-office learning and development plans around technology (e.g., internal briefings, ‘lunch and learns’).
- Provision of trusted advice to all arms of the business including Policy, Regulatory Enforcement, Research, Digital, Marketing and Comms.

- Inform the creation of strategic policy papers investigating technical implications of key online harms, technology facilitated abuse and gender-based violence, cyberbullying, online hate and image-based abuse.
Selection criteria will include
- Experience conducting and briefing on technical matters and the outputs of research including writing briefing papers and briefing to executive stakeholders.
- Substantial expertise in technology domains (e.g., algorithms and machine learning, Artificial Intelligence, content or identity shielding technologies, data science and analytics, detection and moderation technologies, decentralisation, immersive and invasive technologies, quantum technologies, age verification technologies).
- Experience providing expert advisory in at least one of the domains mentioned above.
- Relevant qualification/s in at least one of the domains mentioned above.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including to facilitate and negotiate timelines and conflicting priorities.
- Ability to provide a technical perspective and technology focused considerations in meetings and forums and inputting into whole-of-office learning and development plans around technology
- Demonstrated ability to develop high-quality written documentation, easily understood by technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with work management software (e.g., Atlassian suite) and an aptitude for learning new applications.
- Experience collaborating and delivering with experts across higher education, industry, government, and independent analysts.
